WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD

Monkey is in the press again. That little mutt of mine just can't seem to stay out of the society pages, can she?

"I actually heard someone squeal "Gurj and Quinn!" when the girls made their on-screen cameo—perhaps the same unfortunate soul who again squealed upon recognizing Lewitinn's dog: "Awww, Monkeeeeeeey!""

Can you blame them (probably JennyPenny):

I SAT ALONE AND I DIDNT CARE

I just came from the stellastarr* show at Highlight Ballroom, and it was so fucking great at moments that I felt like I was back in 2001. Just watching people lose their minds over this band that has been totally snubbed by so many people made me feel so satisfied in a way. Like, i was in on a secret I got to share with about 1000 others. It's been so long since I've seen them play and God hearing their old songs was just the most fantastic thing on earth.

My brother and I appeared in their video for "My Coco" back in 2002 (or maybe 2001). It was directed by my friend Adam Neustader (sp?) who is now marrying my friend Audrey Levy! They met at the old Orchard Bar party so Karen and I are DJing their wedding!!!!

Anyway, here's the fantastic video:

TONIGHT YOU'RE MINE COMPLETELY BABY

I just had an afternoon cocktail of a giant frozen margarita. HUGE. it was strawberry flavored. in an hour i need to go to fuse to do an on air interview and i was just told that my face is all flushed. FUN.

cos i'm drunk i will be honest with you:

IF THIS SCHOOLYARD HEROES ALBUM I'M RELEASING ON SEPT 18 DOESNT GET FUCKING HUGE, THEN I GIVE UP.

Everyone's been saying it's like the yeah yeah yeahs meets the misfits or like a heavy metal No Doubt (that's so weird!) or like My Chem.

Shit is for real. Gwen better be shitting herself at the young competition and COURTNEY LOVE, IF YOU ARE READING THIS... you need to be embracing Ryann the singer.

Anyway, i've been getting updates from our online marketing company about sites writing about the band and this is my favorite. It comes from SHOUTMOUTH:

News

Abominations hits stores Spetmebr 18th and I can't wait -- while you can't judge an album by its cover, this definitely hints at something amazing by the best female-fronted band in the world.

And I really do mean that. Considering that I hate 99% of female singers [despite being a singer myself, oh, the irony] and adore Ryann, it says a lot. The songs the band have revealed to date are amazing and this album is going to be killer.
-----------------------

When I was in Seattle for the video shoot, we announced it like a day in advance and there were 100 kids that showed up that were die hard syh fans. they stayed for about 12 hours... if not more. One chick showed up pregnant so her unborn fetus could be in the video.

Shit's exploding everywhere. People keep on emailing me about this album -- more than any other -- freaking out. They all want in. I'm freaking out with excitement. It's gonna be kinda huge, i think. Like, when i hung out with the killers at the set of their video for "mr brightside" (the first one that wasnt aired in the states) and mark was like "i think we're gonna be as big as no doubt" and i was like "yeah, i see that..." this is the same shit. bigger, maybe. like, cult-ish, but on a retarded huge scale.

oh dear. am i ready for this? yes. bring it. i'm so excited.

WISH YOU WOULD STEP BACK FROM THAT LEDGE MY FRIEND

Sorry for quoting 3eb on such a dreary day... but check out this week's soundscan charts. I'm this close to launching myself out the 28th floor window of my office and onto 49th street.

But you know, it's just evidence that we need to figure out a new way to keep the music industry in some sort of business. Until then, please buy records, people. If you like the band, buy the music. Every single sale counts now more than ever.

THE THINGS WE MISS

I love when a friend texts me late at night and says "I just saw this band called _____ and i think you'd love them" and then you remember the text a few days later and they're totally right...

the sad part is when that band is already signed.

the good part is that you get to just enjoy them.

Enjoy MGMT

TOMORROW!!!!

DONE TO DEATH

One of my favorite people on earth is Chris Black. Rob makes fun of me because I'm always like "Chris Black said this... and Chris Black said that... and Chris Black did this... and oh my god, Chris Black..." I'm a Chris Black fan. No wait, I'm the fanclub President.

I don't give a shit that he probably just became friends with me because he was a fan of Brandon's band, because I was offering up some free meals as a thank you for taking Permanent Me on tour. I love Chris Black.

Chris Black also manages Cartel.

Now, I only listened to about 2 Cartel songs before -- I ran through the album and thought it was ok, but never really gave a shit about the songs except for their ridiculously catching singles. I even went to see them 10 times over the past two years whenever Permanent ME opened for them... and I was going to be seeing them a lot more when Nightmare of You got picked as main support (they had to pull out, sadly).

When Chris Black asked me if I could mention that Cartel's new album is out, i was like "yeah, sure, anything for you." and i was totally just going to post the video and itunes buy link without listening to anything. That's what friends do for each other. They put their friends' bands on tour and they get written up on hipster blogs.

So I went to iTunes and bought the album. Blah blah blah. It started playing, but I had the sound tuned into the TV. I turned it back to the computer about the time that "I Will Hide Myself Away/I Will Follow" was on. Will the singer sounded like chris from Saves the Day meets Jeremy from Sunny Day Real Estate and the singer of another band that I promised Chris Black I wouldnt mention on this blog after I called him about 10 minutes ago saying "OH MY GOD, 'I WILL HID MYSELF...' SOUNDS JUST LIKE ______ ____!!!!!"

But yeah, it's actually a good album. It's a non-pop punk album by a VERY pop-punk band. It's like they took a lot of acid, ecstasy, drink, cocaine, and weed and went into the studio... and filmed themselves doing it while living in a bubble.

Click here to get it from iTunes.

I'll send a free copy to whomever can tell me what song "Wasted" sounds like at the 2:51 mark. I can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts.

Oh, if you just wanna try out two songs, go for "Wasted" and "I Will Hide Myself Away/I Will Follow".
THIS IS TONIGHT

The screening of the full episode of MADE: I WANNA BE A HIPSTER is airing tonight at the Tribeca Grand Hotel at 9pm. The Tarts of Pleasure (me and karen) are djing afterwards for an hour and a half.

PHONE PROBLEMS

I have been a huge fan of t-mobile sidekicks for years. I've encouraged over a dozen of people to get a 'kick... and that doesnt include the amount of people who have emailed me from this blog to let me know that they got a 'kick after reading about it on my blog.

Now, these sidekick 3s have been getting mixed reviews. I got one, and at first I was a bit iffy about it due to the shitty service, the dropped calls, the dropped aims, but I got over the inconveniences. A week ago, Brandon said that when he flipped his screen open on his phone, that a piece flew out. This seemed weird to me since brandon is typically quite meticulous with his things and treats them really well. Then about a week after that, the same thing happened to me. That was annoying, but I dealt with it. Yesterday, Gurj said the same thing happened to her. Anyway, the reason I need a new phone is because the screen comes up as totally static and so no texts can be written, no emails can be written, no numbers can be searched for. LAME.

The company that i bought insurance with, Asurance or whateverit's called, refused to give me a phone for free, even though it's a piece of shit phone that broke because it was poorly manufactured. I pay about $5 dollars a month, since november, which comes out to about $50... plus the $110-150 that they want me to pay for the new phone -- that comes out to about $200. For $200 i can buy a new phone!

WHAT A SCAM!

Not to mention, I've been a tmobile user since 2003! There's a certain rebate that I could be up for... if I didnt renew my service for another two years a few months ago. Did I mention that I have two tmobile accounts under my name -- both of which get paid for on time?

I'm sorry, but I DO NOT WANT TO PAY $150 FOR A PHONE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR REASONS THAT ARE NOT MY FAULT.

sorry... just wanted to vent.
I WANNA BE MADE

ALL AROUND

This is flyleaf. I'm not the singer of flyleaf. I think i'm not the singer of flyleaf. I'm pretty sure of it... though, watching this video, i'm not convinced:

MAZEL TOV

One of my good friends from high school, Danny Reichman, got hitched! When I was in high school, it used to be me, him, dan marcus, dalia yudelovitch, natalia ushack, and lorraine gordon running around worshiping Nirvana, Beck, Hole, and anything we heard was alternative. We all used to grow our hair long, dye it weird colors, try to out do each other on weird clothes and new bands. The Dans were always really smart. Marcus got a 1595 on his SATs, then did a ton of whip-its and took the SATs again only to get 1600 (perfect score).

Anyway, it's nice to see my friends get married. Reich's wife seems like a lovely and accomplished woman and they're gonna be so fucking rich, it's not even funny.

NOW LISTEN UP

My friend Ollie Isaacs sent the Black Ghost Mix Tape this morning with the one simple word in the body of the email: ENJOY.

So I'm offering it up with the same word: Enjoy. Click here for it.

Lately I've been getting really into dance music again. I think it was spurred by a few things such as Rob playing the Justice album obsessively, and this special that was on VH1 about drugs and music -- particularly the segment about Ecstasy and Rave culture.

THIS LOOKS LIKE FUN

you will probably hear the original of this song tomorrow if you come:

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

Nightmare of You's EP is called Bang and it's coming out on September 11. What's amazing, is that that's just how it all timed out.

Ladies and gents:

You can pre-order the CD here or a special CD/t-shirt bundle here. As they say "the calendar is cluttered with days that are numbered" so don't delay.

For those of you that prefer your music delivered digitally, the EP has been submitted to various web outlets and although we cannot tell you exactly when they will appear in said services, we will keep you posted and we can assure you that it will be worth the wait.

Your friends,

LIES ARE ENTERTAINMENT

One of the most recent signings to Stolen Transmission is playing a show TONIGHT at Hiro Ballroom at 11pm. They're called InnerPartySystem, and they're fucking incredible. I know, i know, you're probably thinking that I have to say that... but I'm serious. They're a mix between the Faint and Chemical Brothers. You will want to take some E, find some glowsticks, and hump the air while they're playing.

Listen to their music on MySpace.

ST is going darker. Returning to the black roots of our blond heads. IPS follows in that.

Guns'n'Bombs :: Drop The Lime :: InnerPartySystem Live

Hiro Ballroom - Thursday August 16

Kitsune recording artists Guns'n'Bombs have been getting rather hot lately, so we thought we'd better book them while we could... next time we'll have to wear oven gloves. They've been busy remixing Klaxons, Chromeo, Teenagers and many others. And very nice their remixes are too!!

The excellent Drop The Lime will be also be spinning; and come early for electro pioneers Inner Party System who will be playing a live set for us.

It's going to be a night of great music.

WALK IN SILENCE

Tony Wilson and Factory Records were a huge influence for me and my partner Rob Stevenson when we started Stolen Transmission (which was even named after the song "Transmission" by Joy Division). So it's with heavy heart that I deliver this news:

FROM THE BBC

Anthony Wilson dies from cancer

Anthony Wilson was an influential figure in the "Madchester" scene
Anthony Wilson, the music mogul behind some of Manchester's most successful bands, has died of cancer.

The Salford-born entrepreneur, who managed New Order, Joy Division and the Happy Mondays, was diagnosed last year during a routine visit to the doctor.

The 57-year-old, who launched Factory records and the Hacienda nightclub, underwent emergency surgery in January to remove a kidney.

He passed away on Friday evening in hospital.

Doctors recommended he take the drug Sutent after chemotherapy failed to beat the disease, but the NHS refused to fund the £3,500-a-month treatment.

However, members of the Happy Mondays and other acts he supported over the years stepped in and started a fund to help pay for it.

His vision and determination played a key role in helping to put Manchester on the map for its music and vibrant nightlife and his entrepreneurial skills inspired people everywhere.

Phil Saxe, who used to work at Factory Records with Wilson, said: "Part of me, part of Manchester, part of modern British music has died tonight.

"Tony was a genius, basically.

"He was a visionary in that he helped bands, who otherwise wouldn't have made it, who were a bit out of the ordinary.

"He helped them realise their dreams and through that probably realised himself to be Mr Manchester".

'An inspiration'

BBC journalist Kristan Deconinck sought advice from him in the early 1980s on how to launch an independent record label shortly after Wilson had started Factory records.

"He couldn't have been more helpful and more patient," Kristan said.

"He inspired me - and countless others - to have a go if you believed in something.

"That in itself is a great legacy, apart from the vision he had with his label, his shows, his attitude - his contribution to a new culture.

"When I later met him, I found him far more amenable than scurrilous rumours had led me to believe and my esteem for the guy never diminished."

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEP

So while trying to find articles to explain to a friend of mine exactly what's about to happen in our economy and how a ton of people are going to end up without jobs in wallstreet and then eventually all over america resulting in a crazy recession and an impending economic turmoil, i found this article that I literally thought was from The Onion:

Johnson & Johnson Sues Red Cross Over Symbol

And, in case you were wondering what's going on with the economy, you can read the following bleak article:

Mortgage Defaults Growing

"More than 2 million hybrid adjustable rate mortgages (ARMs) come up for reset this fall - peaking in October with more than $50 billion due.

Borrowers who took out hybrid ARMs in 2004 and 2005 to secure low "teaser" rates for the first two or three years of the loan may see their monthly mortgage payments climb by 35 percent or more.

Foreclosures could explode, which would hurt everyone on the food chain: Borrowers lose their homes; lenders lose their payments; local governments lose tax base; and neighborhoods lose resiliency.

The already poor performance of many mortgage loans will worsen substantially through the rest of the year, according to an analysis in late July by Moody's Economy.com."
